How to hack your beliefs before you have tangible evidence that they’re possible

There’s a difference between “wanting to believe” in something amazing & “knowing that it is even if you can’t see it yet”. For example, most people want to believe that they can make $20k, $30k, or $50k a month. So they bust their tail to make it happen.

But beneath that desire to believe, they find themselves questioning if it’s possible or postulating on all the millions of things that’ll have to happen first before it can be. Their beliefs don’t match their behaviors, which creates a less than desirable situation:

A massive, seemingly bottomless gap between execution and results.

Back in January of 2023, when I removed sales calls from my business, the only proof I had that something like that was even possible was because one of my mentors at the time didn’t take sales calls. I didn’t realize until after I paid the initial invoice that I never even expected a sales call from or with her. I’d been subconsciously sold on her for so long that I just knew I needed to be in her orbit. It was that day that I’d cracked open a whole new level of who I was as a client and who I was as a coach.

For the next month, I’d transform my business from taking & closing 2-3 sales calls a week to doubling my prices, working with a higher-caliber client, getting 6 hours a week back in my work schedule to live more of my life, and having a 6-month-deep coaching roster for the first time in my life…all without a single sales call. So, how was I able to do that with no tangible evidence that was possible for me?

Let me walk you through it!

Make the belief feel useful

You want what you want — own that. I wanted to remove sales calls because I’m an INFJ. Even though I loved sales calls and was really good at them, I felt like they had come to severely limit my income and impact. If I spent 6 hours a week on sales calls, that was 6 hours that I couldn’t devote to current or new clients. I wanted more time to dedicate to my craft, and even more time to fill my own cup.

Had I told anyone of this instinctive feeling, they may have told me to think rationally. They may have projected their disbelief on me. But the one thing that I couldn’t ignore is how my body responded to the prospect of removing sales calls:

  • Completely flooded with energy

  • Completely flooded with excitement

  • Completely flooded with power & a strong knowing that I don’t have to justify this decision to anyone

On the chance that insecurity or doubt would show up, I had to honor that just because I felt it…didn’t mean it was useful to me.

Just because something feels true - doubt, worry, fear, insecurity - doesn’t mean it’s useful for you to feel those things. So I decided that I would focus my attention on thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions that felt useful for me instead of the latter.

Make the belief feel normal by embedding it into your current reality

Most of our desires sit on a pedestal, up in the clouds, so far away from where we’re currently at that it hurts our neck (& nervous system) to look up at them. When we want to quantum leap, it’s our job to do one of two things:

1) Bring your desire down to earth - neutralize it, make it normal, take away its “charge” so that you can become a match for it OR

2) Shift your identity so that you can jetpack yourself right up into the clouds (aka quantum leap to your next level)

Let me give you a practical example of this:

Right after I left my job as a sales coach for a business consulting agency, I decided to rebuild my personal brand from scratch on Twitter. For the first time in 2 years, I had control over what I could charge, how many clients I could have & how I wanted to build my containers.

The problem?

I didn’t have any experience holding the number of clients that I wanted to hold (or charging the amount that I was about to charge). Despite wanting more clients than ever before, I was nervous that - energetically - I wouldn’t be able to hold that many without burning out.

So I had to train my nervous system to be able to hold more clients. I started scheduling “mock” coaching calls Tuesday - Thursday. If I had a full client roster, those would’ve been my coaching call days. So, every T/W/Th for 2 months - while I rebuilt my brand from scratch - I honored these mock coaching calls on my calendar like I would a real client session.

I’d practice new coaching skills. Sometimes I’d spend the whole hour visualizing how a mindblowing client session would go. I would text myself in Whatsapp and coach myself through my own blocks. It became normal for me to have all these clients & show up for all these calls, so that became my reality just 8 weeks later.

Stack so much evidence to support what you WANT to be true

“Trusting yourself” is a really fickle process for the brain. It feels neutral on good days & completely destabilizing on bad days because it’s not something that we can hold in our hands. So we have to give our brain evidence to chew on instead.

Quantum leaping is just showing yourself what you can achieve one single time…and then repeating that over and over again…one at a time.

If you can close 1 client at 4k, you can close 1 client at 5k, and 1 at 10k, and 1 at 20k.

Flood your system with evidence that things are working in the desired direction, even if you have to lean on someone else to show you what’s possible for the time being.

  1. Where are things actually working out? Are you getting distracted by where they aren’t?

  2. What is your unique strategy for creating epic results?

  3. What is your unique strategy for creating shite results?

  4. What do you want this situation to look and feel like? What can you do right now to bring that to life?

  5. Can you surround yourself with more people who are successfully accomplishing what you WANT to be true?

To normalize greatness in your life & business, you have to reach for it in the most mundane moments. Make it normal. Make it so casual that it could exist in your life right this moment. Oh, and…

Make decisions that flood your body with power.

When you imagined having done the thing - no matter how crazy, delusional, or impossible it is - if it sends a zing of excitement up your spine, or a tingle on the back of your neck, or gives you a sense of super-human power…

Follow it.

When you’re leading with intuition - the truest and deepest of love - it’s nearly impossible for your logical brain to slow you down.
